Two and a half years after the Xbox, PC release and following months of rumours, it's official: Bethesda RPG Starfield is coming to PS5, releasing on 7th April 2026.
This is the biggest and most comprehensive version of Starfield to date, as the base game arrives on PS5 alongside its first expansion, Shattered Space, as well as a newly revealed DLC in Terran Armada and a substantial free update called Free Lanes.
The base game costs $50, or you can opt for the Premium Edition which includes the two expansions: Shattered Space and Terran Armada. It's $70, and Bethesda values the new DLC, Terran Armada, at $10 when bought standalone.

"Starfield represents one of Bethesda Game Studios’ most ambitious projects, and since launch in 2023 the game has continued to grow. New content, game systems, fan‑requested features, a story expansion, quality-of-life updates, and over 1000 community Creations have deeply enriched the universe," said Bethesda.
Now, the company calls next month's overhaul and PS5 release the "biggest update to the game since launch", making it the "most complete version" of Starfield there's ever been.
Below you can learn more about the PS5 version and the new content arriving on 7th April 2026.
Starfield PS5 + PS5 Pro Versions and Enhancements
When played on a PS5 or a PS5 Pro, Starfield takes advantage of the console's features, including "the lightbar, adaptive triggers, touchpad, and more".
On PS5 Pro, you'll have access to two additional modes on top of what's already available on the base PS5:
- Pro Performance Mode — Play at a higher-target FPS
- Pro Visual Mode — Play at a higher resolution
Terran Armada DLC
The new Terran Armada expansion adds a new questline that spans the entire galaxy; it isn't based around one location like Shattered Space is. Meeting new characters, exploring new places, and completing more quests for further rewards, you "get the chance to shape the future of humanity in space".
Free Lanes Update
Free Lanes is a new update that expands on the core Starfield title by allowing for interplanetary travel in systems. You can "use cruise mode to travel from planet to planet within a star system, where they’ll experience frequent encounters and activities and spend some quality time on their ship with their crew".
The patch also adds the following to the base game:
- New locations — A number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, notable increase in variety for players to discover
- X-Tech — A new resource used to upgrade weapons, ship modules, and more
- Enemy modifiers — New enemy tiers with performance modifiers, such as extra shielding, more frequent attacks, or elemental damage
- Moon Jumper — New land vehicle
- Outpost improvements — Cross-outpost storage & Milliewhale pet
- New crew — Muria and the mini-bot
- Starborn Improvement — Ability to bring a limited number of items through the Unity to a NG+
Bethesda then concluded: "Together, these launches mark the next chapter for Starfield, bringing its most complete and refined experience to more players as the universe continues to expand."
Starfield originally released to a Metacritic rating of 85, and has since been continually updated with improvements and fresh content. The version arriving on 7th April 2026 will be the most comprehensive edition of it yet.

Unpopular opinion - this is mine on launch, had a great time on the Xbox version and interested to see it play on the Pro.
I shell double dip on day one and those Pro modes sound better then usual offerings from MS. The Free Lanes update sounds fantastic.
I'll wait another year for it to come on Extra
@Boomers-r-us There's the announcement / prices.
I'm interested but it's not at the top of my list. Problem is, I can't see a time when it will be.
I'll probably stick it on the wishlist and wait for the first decent sale price
Always good to see games gets updated. Not interested in one bit though.
Will 100% be buying, once it goes on sale haha (and yes I know it’s not launching at full price)
@Gremio108 bingo
My nephew got a Series S just for Starfield. I hope he kept the receipt.
Cool.starfield looks like a game I will enjoy.so it's all good Word up son
A game needs to be special to get my time. Fromsoft games, niohs, cd project red games… ect… this ain’t it.
its a good 7/10 game not trash
game gets alot of unnecessary hate
Unless a friend gets this and I can borrow it then the only way I'm going to play this is with Extra. It just looks like something I'd enjoy for about 12 hours and then get bored, which isn't something worth that price tag for me.
Let's see if Bethesda can properly update it without breaking things and causing new problems.
@trev666 It really isn't as bad as people say it is imo, hopefully some PS5 players will enjoy it
All my favourite Xbox games are now on my PS5, never thought I’d see the day! Glad I kept my original Constellation Edition. A bit sad there won’t be a Starfield themed DualSense.
Good that Bethesda and Push Square have clarified like three times that this is the most comprehensive version to date. Because it’s super common for subsequent releases to be less comprehensive. Like how we can’t know if it’s the best iPhone ever until Tim Apple literally says it is.
I may give this a chance. I didn’t like it when I first played it, but I was also deep in BG3 and Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty, so I wasn’t really taking my time with the game. If it reviews well, I may give it a try.
@Questionable_Duck its a couple of reasons because Bethesda are now a company people just blindly hate because
Microsoft bought them
they expected it to be great, if its not must be trash
they assume as its Bethesda game its broken buggy mess
@Oram77 I could see this coming to Essential by then. Veilguard took 4 months to get to Essential
As I’ve said before, this is not a bad game by any means.
It’s a bit like Crimson Desert in that a bunch of hype monkeys had been hyping this up to high heaven for years before it launched, and it wasn’t the 10 out of 10 life changing experience that they’d falsely built it up to be.
Same thing that happened with Cyberpunk.
It’s just a fairly good 8 out of 10 game. Just like Cyberpunk, and just like Crimson Desert will be.
I just hope they do add some good quality of life features, one of them being doing something about the garbage inventory system. Much like Fallout 4, half of my entire game time was spent trying to manage inventory.
@Questionable_Duck @trev666 I think the ‘hate’ comes down to a certain minority of gamers aligned to a shade of green rather than blue shouting from the rooftops for anyone that’d listen, about it being Game of the Generation… then when it actually released it was around a 7/10. If they’d just kept their powder dry on the gushing, this hate you speak of would’ve been far less of a thing.
'1000 Creation Credits'. So....mods aren't free on PS5??? What is this nonsense Bethesda.
I guess this is old news, but what a load of crap.
Should have shadow dropped fallout 3 remasters
Day one, unironically. I had fun with little I played on Series X, but PlayStation is my home.
@AdamNovice Why do you hope for that?
Unfortunately this game is just flawed on a foundational level. Hope they learn from this
Had a great time with this on Series X and PC, I think I’ll go for the platinum
@Stragen8 There are still plenty of free mods, but there are a bunch of sanctioned paid mods as well. Same thing as Skyrim and Fallout 4.
Took them long enough. Not sure if I’ll play it though
@TasteMaker It's more of a joke because I don't think he's used it for any other game.
Are people trying to forget how totally mid this game is?
Ambitious ≠ good, mind. But I guess "Starfield represents one of Bethesda Game Studios' most mid and overhyped projects" isn't a great soubdbite.
Looking forward to playing this! I wonder whether Crimson Desert or Starfield will be more buggy? I expect both to be rough at first.
I'll play this. I like Bethesda nonsense so I'll give this a go.
This game is like so middle of the road, it's the yellow paint telling you where the middle of the road is. Like I really do feel that Bethesda was so arrogant and seeing this game get a tepid reception gave them this "wait what, no way, our game is great" attitude since
As someone who owns Starfield on Series X physical disc…well, this certainly is a game.
I still can’t get into it after several tries, but hopefully those who want to play this rather meh game on PS will enjoy it!
I'll wait for the innevitable sale.
I guess the Xbox gamers were beta testing the game all these years until it finally launches for PlayStation. It seems actually polished this time. Regardless, I will be waiting for a discount.
I have yet to play an actual Bethesda-developed game. Mostly Arkane, Obsidian, Tango Gameworks, etc. But that formula (first person action/RPG) is weirdly addicting to me. So I might very well check this out at some point.
Can’t see this one selling all that well.
I’ll consider picking it up on sale in a few months if the DLC is worthwhile. I thought Starfield was solid, but flawed
@darthvirgin most articles are paid advertisements on gaming “news” sites these days. Once you learn to spot it you can’t unsee it.
Is the game still ***** though?
@psmr If it was a PS5 exclusive (as Sony had initially intended) or if it was multiplatform from the get go, I'd assume there'd be less hate. But, more importantly, there would also be less hate if the game just wasn't made by Bethesda at all.
There's a lot of baggage that comes with the Bethesda Game Studios name, and frankly, at the time the game was released, Bethesda and Todd Howard's reputations weren't all that positive. When people hear "new Bethesda RPG," they automatically expect a generation-defining game that will influence game design for generations to come. And, you know what? Maybe that's fair, given how Bethesda themselves portrayed the game leading up to its release.
But I legitimately think, if this game was made by anyone other than Bethesda and (to a lesser extent) wasn't an Xbox exclusive, it wouldn't have received nearly as much intense, vitriolic hate as it did. Like, seriously, judging by how some people were acting, you'd think Todd killed their family or something.
Finally! I'll put this one on my wishlist. This game, alongside Avowed and South of Midnight really got my attention and I'm planning to buy all of them eventually, plus Indiana Jones and Hellblade 2 in the future
It’s competing with a number of backlog and new games I’m interested in but I’m still tempted.
The setting and game style should work for me. I had an Xbox, and Gamepass, when this came out but didn’t go for it then as I was put off by the bugs and need for updates. This version is a lot more tempting. I’ve done the same with Cyberpunk!
@PloverNutter The game is almost 3 years old.
I loved this at launch, and I can't wait to get stuck in with the new content and DLC on PS5 Pro!
Is this what V1.5 update to Cyberpunk 2077, the equivalent for this game basically? Or somewhat bigger?
Hard pass at that pricing.
@trev666
I dont think people are hsting on it, they’re just calling it mid. I think that was because it was hyped as the next big thing in gaming, the game of the generation. And then it released, as you said, as just a 7/10 game
I played it on Xbox - loved it tho didn't play more than about 15hrs - sold Xbox - now will get it for my PS Pro -
I think enough people will find some enjoyment here, just don't go in expecting the next Skyrim or Fallout 3.
@Dogbreath Cyberpunk is at least a 9/10 after all the updates they made in the 12-18 months post launch. And Crimson Desert isn’t even out yet, but could also be a 9/10!
I enjoyed this back at launch on PC and what I'm seeing here are some very smart updates to remove much of the friction amd make it more enjoyable to play. I may well jump back in at some point but there are a few new games I'm interested in playing
Yeah this looks great. Will def ne picking up. The free lanes update is what the game needs, as space always felt so stagnant.
Does it now have a map?
@Questionable_Duck if it was a ps5 exclusive no one would’ve been hailing it as Game of the Generation before it’s even released.
@GirlVersusGame 🤔 think I'll wait
@Stragen8 There are both free and paid mods available in Creation Club.
@Boxmonkey yeah, I’m just amazed at the level of idiocy it must take for someone to be impressed by these kinds of claims about releases.
I am pretty shocked that they priced the deluxe edition fairly.
An extra $20 gets you 2 paid DLCs plus $10 in creation credits.
Once the discounts start rolling in post-release that will be an even better price.
@Questionable_Duck that sounds like an excuse to me. if a game is good does not matter one bit what people say.
@GirlVersusGame On the UK store the standard edition is £44.99 and the premium is £60.99.
I just watched through all the update videos.
Seems like there are some nice updates in there. Probably nothing truly life changing but looks like a lot of great improvements.
I'll definitely be picking this up. Played about 125 hours when it released until my Series X decided to not work anymore, so I'm super excited to start over on PS5 Pro. Was there any mention of a physical version? Or did I miss it?
@Alpine The game is "decent" but not "great". The problem is that for various reasons it gets treated like it's Gollum.
It definitely isn't a game for everyone but I feel like some people who may have enjoyed it, missed out due to all the hate.
@pyrrhic_victory Physical copies are already up for pre-order at some stores in the US.
Not sure what is actually on the disc though.
What a cool video!
It made me interested in this game again! I remember being mad (as a Fallout-fan) that Micro$lop bought Bethesda and I would miss out on it.
Then it launched, and it was such a catastrophe that I was shocked and then slightly amused. Now, I am again slightly amused because that PS5 logo is just fun to see. They've become quite the mighty vassal publisher to the King of consoles.
Now to wishlist it and wait forever for a good sale ...... 😵
loved it on XSX. Terran armada looks great, lots more bounties is great. will wait for a sale as already bought it once, but looking forward to replaying it, and the new content.
@thechetearly Great minds think alike
Going to wait for a sale, like $30, but I still want to try it out for myself.
Pretty stoked this is finally coming to PS5.
Wish I'd liked this, but found it to be completely average when I played it originally. But I know some folks who did enjoy it a lot and I'm sure there's at least a few of those folks on PS5 as well.
To me the best thing to come out of this was watching Conan blow up that one grandma's spaceship.
Still not worth the price imo, il wait until it hits playstation plus.
@Alpine Yes, that is why the game still did well enough for Bethesda to continue supporting it, despite all the bad press
"Its not Indiana Jones or Starfield."
Tried it when I had Game Pass. It wasn't bad and had some good moments from what I played, but it got repetitive really fast. Ultimately it just felt like a boneless Fallout 4 to me, as they stripped a lot of the meat from the already not too complex combat, upgrades, & general mechanics. I'd definitely recommend it, but not until a decent sale.
Does it have cross save? Or at least an option to use your Xbox save? Have a couple hundred hours in and would like to continue. Great game by the way!
The star wars mods are great to play around with , has sony allowed them on ps or does it not support unofficial assets like skyrim , this would take away a lot of value away from the ps version
@frankmcma same - can't find anything on this, but I really hope so. if I cant import my saver I'll wait to replay for another year or more
@frankmcma Interesting question. Starfield supports cross-saves between PC and XBOX but only if you are using the Microsoft store version.
It seems....unlikely that there will be support for cross-save between XBOX and PS5 but I guess we will have to wait and see.
This title is more hype than it delivers... Played it on Game Pass on launch, after 10-12 hours it got too boring to continue.
To those that wanna try it, best wait for a discount - but if you're very determined, at least try to keep your expectations low going in, it may not be to your liking.
@Dimey Yes, it would be nice to continue for sure. Although I may play through again.
@evan23 I mean the "Play Anywhere" at this point should now include PS5
@psmr Or it's not a stupid fanboy response to stupid fanboys, and the game just legitimately disappointed a lot of people.
Plenty will focus on the displacement from expectations well before general quality.
Definitely will be getting it, not sure if it will bee day one or later down the line like in the summer
@RoomWithaMoose Conversely, declaring it Game of the Generation before anyone had even played it was a stupid fanboy declaration? 🤷♂️ works both ways, only the declaration actually started it
Game of a generation 😂😂 Xbox players delusions was off the charts when the game came out
This one not even on sale from what I saw is definitely below mid
I wonder how many loadings between buildings they add this time
Remember is not a bug it's a feature this should be Bethesda slogan
@Yor-sama That hype is probably responsible for most of the backlash. PureXbox was manic! “Ponies will RUE the day!! Cast your P$5 into the sea and weep!”
16x the loadings @Yor-sama, 16x…
I have well over 300 hours into Starfield.
It is 100% not the game of the generation.
The overhyped expectations were definitely one of the reason for all the backlash.
Another reason though is that the game is a whole bunch of different things. It is a narrative RPG, space combat sim, space exploration/resource management game and has a rich ship building experience. Excluding the ship building, it isn't particularly amazing at any one of those things. What makes the game interesting is the combination of those things.
I have spent countless hours just building ships. Why? Because I enjoy it.
But not everyone will enjoy Starfield's combination of things.
If you view it purely as a narrative RPG, it is OK but not great. If you look at the exploration/resource management it will pale in comparison to other games that focus on only those elements. There are without any doubt better space combat sims out there.
Even though it is far from perfect, I enjoy that mix of elements and will probably head back to the world of Starfield once these new features launch and the modding community catches up.
Erm, this or save money for the new Yoshi on switch 2. Easy decision.
@psmr ahah with Todd everything is possible
I mean that name alone says everything sounds more like a cult
Calling this a game of generation before release must be delusion I don't know what they were thinking
@frankmcma yeah - Barrett died in my first play through and this locked me out of one of the powers... so I'll probably play through it all again. I hope people give this game a change, I genuinely loved my time with it
@evan23 agreed. I must have hit over 300h on XSX. great to see the game get this support, with more to come. it has so much potential, and I actually have confidence it'll keep getting better. really looking forward to starting agin on PS5
I absolutely adore Starfield.
Played this on Xbox, was ok but became very repetitive. You can tell when the YouTube comments is full of bots or heavily moderated; every comment is extremely positive and praising everything in the game. No neutral okr negative comments, which is unheard of on the internet today, especially for a Bethesda game.
@Shokwave2 That’s interesting because every comment I see on YouTube and essentially elsewhere is negative.
@psmr Doing a stupid because someone else did a stupid doesn't make said stupid any less stupid.
More importantly, though, the negative reception of Starfield was not primarily a response to desperate fanboys pre-appraising it. It was a disappointing game that disappointed a lot of people. The vitriol seems so harsh because everyone was hoping for better and it didn't deliver. Simple as that.
Loud fanboys are NEVER the crux of the discourse.
What's next? Oh wait, is there any next? Lol
@RoomWithaMoose well, as always we’ll have to agree to disagree. My personal take is it got double-glazed by bots pre-release, then it released mid, then anyone who isn’t overly-invested in Microsoft laughed, the end.
Hopefully it turns out well.
I'll always cheer for a game breaking the chains of console exclusivity and going multi-platform! Am I excited for this personally? Not really, but I'm happy for the people who were hoping for this!
